Greener Grounds

Traditional playgrounds and playing fields can look drab, but well designed outdoor spaces can offer children varied and stimulating learning and play experiences.

Greener Grounds is a project designed to help schools to find sustainable ways to improve, use and manage the whole of their outdoor space in a way that supports pupils learning, play and development.

Wildlife Trust staff can work with a school to engage all stakeholders, collect information about the school grounds, set up a pupil steering group, produce a feasibility study and vision plan, carry out landscaping works and support teachers in use of the grounds for different educational activities.

“Greener Grounds has been a positive instrument for changing the outdoor experiences of our children.” Craig Malkin, Teacher, Valley Park Community Primary School”

“The Sheffield Wildlife Trust team worked very well and kept the children informed too.”  Mark Baker, Teacher, Woodthorpe Community Primary School
