Events - General Info

pond dipping

Whether you’re five or 50, interested in shelter building or traditional country crafts, we’ll have an education or fun event that’s right for you – and which will help you get even more out of your local environment.

All our events are free of charge, although we do suggest a donation of £3 per person towards running costs, and all can be reached easily by public transport.

Hints and Tips

Wear suitable clothing and footwear – remember that the weather is unpredictable and can change rapidly, especially in the Peak District.

Not all events are suitable for wheelchair users or pushchairs, due to uneven or steep terrain.  Call 0114 263 4335 to check.

Please make sure children are accompanied by a responsible adult.

All our events are easily reached by public transport and most are arranged around bus times. For public transport details, call Traveline on 01709 515151.

Where specified, events must be booked in advance, otherwise just turn up.

Photographs may be taken by trust staff at events and used for publicity purposes by SWT or its partner organisations. Please tell a member of staff at an event if you are unhappy with this.

Dogs on leads are welcome, unless otherwise specified.

Sig Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and 3k Fun Run

Run for us! Sheffield Half Marathon 2010

Sunday 25 April 2010 at Don Valley Stadium:

We are delighted to be one of just ten charities to benefit from next years SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and 3k Fun Run.

Why don’t you GET FIT and make a huge difference to wildlife in Sheffield at the same time! Raise just £50 in sponsorship for us and we will pay your running fee. Top fundraisers can even win prizes. Places in the race are limited, and did sell out last year so book now and don’t miss out.

We’d like to say a big thank you to runners from Murphy, who raised a massive £895 for us at last year’s race!

If you’re injured or don’t fancy running the race, you can still take part. Why not volunteer to help on the day instead? We need over 100 volunteers for the event to run smoothly. We would love to hear from you.

Winter Play

The Winter Play project provides fun, free activities for children and young people in their local parks and green spaces. Winter can be an exciting time, but sometimes there's not a lot for children and young people to do outdoors. Winter Play provides an opportunity to run about, make a noise and get messy. Activities include arts and crafts, shelter building, games and much more. All sessions are planned and delivered by experienced staff who have enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks.

There's no need to book - just turn up and join in. All activities are free and suitable for all ages. We just ask you to make sure children are dressed appropriately for the weather as all activities take place outdoors. We do have a small supply of waterproofs and gloves if the weather turns wet and cold. Healthy refreshments and warm drinks are provided.

For more information about specific times and dates of a specific play session near you, contact Sheffield Wildlife trust on 0114 2634335 or email mail@wildsheffield.com. The Winter Play project is funded through Sheffield City Council by Big Lottery. Working in Partnership with Activity Sheffield

River Stewardship Company

The River Stewardship Company (RSC) is a non-profit social enterprise created to provide riverside organisations with the means to improve their section of riverside through tidying up the banks and enhancing the habitats found along it. The RSC also hopes to help raise the profile of the River Don through increasing knowledge and interest about the recreational benefits of using the riverside and the valuable wildlife and flora found along it.

Most events are free and children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult unless otherwise stated in the event description.
