Future Jobs Fund

The Future Jobs Fund has been created by the government to provide around £1 billion to support the creation of 150,000 jobs for long term unemployed young people and others who face significant disadvantage in the labour market within the UK. Young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who have been claiming Job Seekers Allowance for over 9 months will be eligible to receive a paid job that will enable them to gain the skills and experience necessary to further their career aspirations.

SWT have secured funding through FJF to create 50 paid placements over the next 18 months. The placements will be over 25 hours per week for a duration of 6 months and will paid the national minimum wage. A wide variety of different opportunities have been created to offer a choice of work options, including practical conservation roles such as habitat management and ecological monitoring, community and youth work, environmental education, marketing and admin. Successful applicants will receive an individually tailored training package to allow them to gain relevant accredited qualifications and skills, along with regular career guidance and support from a dedicated supervisor.

Young people who feel that they may be eligible to benefit from this scheme should first check with their Job Centre Plus Advisor who will arrange a referral if suitability can be demonstrated. There are no essential criteria of prior experience that applicants must meet, all we ask is that the young person can demonstrate a willingness and aptitude for the work.
