Joan Hoare

Mrs Hoare was a long-time supporter of Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust and a former trustee and volunteer. Joan loved the outdoors and would be out walking in Sheffield's wild fringes with her husband Richard whenever she could.

Shortly before her death, Joan submitted her final dissertation for an MA in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University and a volume of her poetry Equal Viewing is currently in press.

When Joan Hoare died, she remembered the Trust with a generous legacy in her will, which was used to establish and maintain new wildflower meadows on our Centenary Riverside nature reserve. In the last 100 years, 97% of wildflower meadows in the UK have been lost; thanks to Joan’s generosity, this one will continue to flourish, attract wildlife and give pleasure to visitors for many years to come.
