| Surveying, planning & policy making |
Gathering information on wildlife and using it to plan for the future is a vital part of wildlife conservation. So is making action plans that safeguard important habitats and species through setting realistic, achievable targets. Sheffield Wildlife Trust is a major partner in the Local Biodiversity Action Planning process, collating data and expert opinions from a wide range of sources and agreeing on effective action. The Trust’s own survey team is also busy, collecting data on habitats and species from nature reserves, river corridors, gardens, parks and open spaces across the city.
Contributing to the planning process by providing expert opinions and advice is also important, and is made so much more effective by being guided by the conservation priorities agreed with local conservation groups. Our input into the Park Users Forum, Sheffield First for Environment and other major plans for the city, and our respected reputation as conservationists who understand how the world works, gives us a real voice for Sheffield’s natural world.
