Will you help the most important creatures on the planet?

41% of insect species face extinction.

Loss of habitats and overuse of pesticides are two major reasons why insects are dying out eight times faster than large mammals.

However, it’s not too late and with your help, we can put insects into recovery.

Download our report Reversing the Decline of Insects by Professor Dave Goulson, University of Sussex.

This report sets out how important it is that we act now to reverse the decline of insects and see them thrive once more; with case studies from across the movement of work undertaken or underway to showcase how it can be done – as well as examples from other organisations and individuals. With the launch of the report, we are asking for several key things:

  • For the Government to set an ambitious pesticide reduction target, to be as good or better than the EU’s proposed target to reduce by 50% the overall use of and risk from chemical pesticides by 2030
  • No weakening of UK pesticide standards through future trade deals
  • Support for farmers to adopt insect-friendly farming practices
  • For everyone to step up to become insect champions – and to help us achieve a network of nature-rich places covering at least 30% of the UK.

By working together, we can change the future of insects. Starting right now, you can make small changes in your home, lifestyle and community that will help these fascinating creatures. Follow the advice in our Action for Insects guide and create an insect-friendly garden that is teeming with wildlife.

Five reasons why we should we care

  1. Without insects many birds, bats, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals and fish would die out as they would have nothing to eat.
  2. 87% of all plant species require animal pollination, most of it delivered by insects. That is pretty much all of them except grasses and conifers.
  3. In addition, three out of four of all the crops that we grow require pollination by insects.
  4. Only by working together can we address the causes of insect loss, halt and reverse them, and secure a sustainable future for insect life and for ourselves.
  5. Together, we can stop this looming catastrophe and create an environment that is rich in nature for the benefit of wildlife and people.
