Blackburn Meadows is owned by Sheffield City Council and not in the Trust’s control. We are working the Council to find a long-term solution to managing this site.
This reserve, just set off from the nearby Tinsley Canal offers a mix of woodland, grassland and wetland habitat for birds such as reed bunting, lapwing and grey heron. The trees surrounding the reserve offer the chance to see smaller birds like chiffchaff, long-tailed tit and bullfinch.
Overhead there are also regular sightings of birds of prey to be had, including buzzard, kestrel and peregrine falcon. If you’re walking to or from the reserve along the canal, look out for the blue flash of kingfishers flying along the water or resting on overhanging branches.
