Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust has received a £1,500 donation from the team at E.ON’s Blackburn Meadows Renewable Energy Park, helping the charity to take care of almost 600 hectares for nature across Sheffield and Rotherham.
Earlier this year the Tinsley plant provided the filming backdrop for an advertising campaign, for Vodafone Business, hosting a crew from creative agency Ogilvy & production house Hogarth Worldwide, with E.ON donating the location fee to the Trust to carry on their biodiversity work in the community.
The money will be used to support conservation work to help wildlife thrive across South Yorkshire, at reserves like Centenary Riverside; a 4.5 hectare wetland reserve nestled alongside the River Don, close to E.ON’s energy park. The site used to be an industrial wasteland but thanks to careful management by the Trust, it now consists of a beautiful wildflower meadow bank brimming with butterflies and insects, and a series of ponds and wetlands which attract a huge variety of birds, mammals and insects. The nature reserve also provides a natural flood management system by holding back potential flood water, protecting homes and businesses nearby.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown began Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust have continued to care for their network of nature reserves that provide such vital respite for users, boosting health and wellbeing and providing much needed access to nature.

It will help us to keep up our conservation work caring for the wildlife we all love, making it easier for everyone to connect with and enjoy nature on their doorstep.
