Doncaster named a Tree City of the World

Woodland creation and tree planting efforts through the South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership have been recognised with international acclaim.

Congratulations to our SYWP partner, City of Doncaster Council @MyDoncaster as Doncaster is announced as one of only 200 cities worldwide to be given the title of Tree City of the World!🌳🌲The recognition acknowledges the commitment made across the city to plant new trees. 👏

South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership comprises South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, the Woodland Trust (linking in to the Northern Forest), the four Local Authorities — Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham — and us, at Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “This year alone we have collaborated with 22 schools to plant 7,500 trees and 3,200 trees have been planted across council managed cemetery and crematorium sites. We have also collaborated with businesses and corporate volunteers to plant a new woodland in Toll Bar, working alongside South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership.”

South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership offers free expert help to any landowner at every stage of the woodland creation process, including grant application and design, making it easier for landowners to contribute to the vital initiative of establishing well-designed, resilient woodland that provides multiple benefits to people, wildlife and the climate.🌳💚
