Highlighting our hedgerows

Autumn marks the start of tree planting season for South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership, so it’s a busy time!

Today, we’re highlighting our hedgerows!

As well as providing valuable shelter for crops and animals, planting hedgerows offers significant ecological benefits including nesting sites for birds, food sources such as berries for animals during the winter season, and wildlife corridors to help connect fields and woodlands together.

With help from our partners, we have just distributed over 1km of hedges for community planting schemes with a further 5.3km due to be planted this winter in both rural and urban areas across South Yorkshire.

We’re thrilled to have so many landowners committed to planting new trees and woodlands on their land, whether in fields, public green spaces, or schools.

Our current projects include Friends of Whirlow Brook Park who are busy planting native hedge in their community orchard, and Wath Hall Preservation Society who are planting a boundary hedgerow to improve their grounds around Wath Community Hall.

If you’re interested in planting trees or hedges on your land FOR FREE, please get in touch with us at the South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership as we’d love to help you get started.  Send us a message via the enquiry page and we’ll be in touch soon!
