Nature Reserves

We take care of 15 nature reserves across Sheffield and Rotherham.

© Chris Senior

We currently manage 15 nature reserves in Sheffield and Rotherham, ranging from large moorland areas of international importance, to small city centre nature parks. These pages will help you find all the information you need about each of the reserves, how to get there and what you can expect to find on your visit.

From meadows and reedbeds to woodlands and beaches, nature reserves are protected places where wildlife can live and ultimately thrive. Our nature reserves in Sheffield and Rotherham are managed by our dedicated conservation teams, with thanks to the kind support of our members and volunteers that make all our work possible.  We protect, restore and create a mix of habitats where wildlife can flourish.

Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves

The management of our nature reserves would be impossible without our amazing members and volunteers. Together we take care of almost 600 hectares, across Sheffield and Rotherham. These are places where you can enjoy nature and where our conservation work helps the wildlife you love to thrive. Thank you.

Sometimes our reserves are a relic of a historic landscape, home to flora and fauna that are rarely found anywhere else. Agden Bog nature reserve is a classic example of a type of bog that has now mostly disappeared from our landscape following draining of the land for agriculture. Others such as Crabtree Ponds provide a green oasis for wildlife and people in the middle of the urban sprawl.

Please note that if you are taking your dog on any of our reserves, please keep them on a lead during bird breeding season (between March and August) and around any grazing cattle.

To get in touch with us about any of our reserves, please email nature.reserves@wildsheffield.com or call 0114 263 4335.
