Support our local Nature Reserves

Wild Work Days provide the perfect opportunity to get out of the office, get your team together, and make a real difference to Sheffield and Rotherham’s wild spaces.

As well as being a great team-building experience, you will be helping to complete important conservation work on our nature reserves, giving back to wildlife and communities, and visibly contributing to the local environment.

Spending time in nature is proven to boost well-being, and can help boost morale, improve communication, and strengthen relationships within your team. A great way to use one of your volunteer days.

Fresh air, fresh thinking with a Wild Work Day

Join us on one of our Nature Reserves for your next team Away Day and experience the benefits for yourself!

We aim to inspire, connect and engage you with nature, wildlife and your colleagues.

“We had the best time on our wild work day! Joe (from SRWT) was fantastic. We bonded as a team and felt like we made a real difference – I think we scared Joe at how much we were machines and made it our personal mission to clear the biggest area of Himalayan Balsam that any group has ever cleared! Already planning our next one – thank you!

“Even though we all come from different disciplines within the company, it was fantastic to see everyone working hard together as a team, seamlessly working around or with each other. Looking back after we’d finished, it was quite surprising to see just how much of an area we had covered, so it shows what you can all do together with a bit of effort.”

Nicola Taylor, Pell Frischmann

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost?

Wild Work Days are priced at £500 + VAT for groups between 5-20 people. Corporate Members receive free and discounted Wild Work Days.

What kinds of tasks will we be doing?

Types of tasks vary depending on the time of year. Once the breeding season starts (early March until early August) we take a step back from heavy conservation interventions, and allow wildlife to use our nature reserves as a sanctuary to breed. During these months we do have restrictions to team sizes and activities.

Some of our regular tasks involve:

– Grass raking: meadow management requires grass to be removed from site
– Overhanging vegetation control: cutting back branches that grow into the paths
– Invasive species control: pulling out the roots of himalayan balsam or bracken
– Path maintenance: scraping off grass growing on top of paths, adding stone to paths
– Drainage works: digging out the silt collected in ditches so paths are not muddy

What does a typical Wild Work Day look like?

We are keen to work with your organisation to get the best out of your day. Please contact us to discuss any specific timings or requirements. An example Wild Work Day would look like:

Arrival and intro at 9:50am, ready to start working at 10:00am

Short refreshment break at 11:30am (tea, coffee and biscuits provided)

Lunch at 13:00pm (please advise your staff to bring a packed lunch for the day)

Finish at 15:00pm

What do we need to bring?

To make the most of your Wild Work Day it is important that your team wear appropriate clothing.

All participants should wear solid, sturdy footwear with no open toes (walking boots are the best option if possible), and long sleeves and trousers (to protect from insect bites, nettles and thorns).

We recommend wearing layers of clothing which you can add/remove throughout the day.

Dress appropriately for the weather: sun hats, sun cream, insect repellent, waterproofs and
extra warm clothes are recommended.

All tools, equipment and gloves will be provided as well as a full health and safety briefing
from our trained team leaders.

What facilities are available?

Often there are no toilet facilities on our reserves so it really is a case of ‘going wild’.

What is provided in terms of first aid?

All team leaders leading your sessions are first aid trained and will carry a first aid kit adequate to the size of the group.

Where do we park?

We encourage walking, cycling and public transport use to our nature reserves and partner sites where possible. There are bus, train, tram and cycle routes to many nature reserves.

On street parking or a car park is available however we encourage car sharing as much as possible. Parking details and meeting point will be confirmed in your booking confirmation.
