Stop the badger cull coming to Derbyshire

Despite an announcement to the contrary in March, the UK Government is due to make an announcement of new badger culling areas this September. We are very concerned to learn that Derbyshire may be included in these areas, following a leaked report which indicates that the Government plan to approve a badger cull in Derbyshire next month.

In 2019 Derbyshire Wildlife Trust successfully campaigned against the threat of a badger cull, but once again the threat is back and if approved, could see badgers being culled in Derbyshire as early as September.

Over the last six years, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has been running the UK’s largest badger vaccination programme, proving there is a much more humane way and significantly cheaper alternative to tackling bovine TB than culling. The ultimate aim of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s vaccination programme has been to stop the badger cull coming to the county.

There is a very short window of time available to try and change the Government’s mind, so
Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust is joining Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s call to ask for your support to make sure the badger cull is not extended into Derbyshire.
