I have an academic background in estate management, sustainable food and natural resources and social development. Currently I am involved in work with The Wildlife Trusts Federation to develop training on greenhouse gas emissions reduction and adaptation to the impacts of climate breakdown through nature-based solutions.
Previously I was a company director of Global Justice Now and South Yorkshire Climate Alliance. I served for three years as a Commissioner for the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission and a member of its Land, Nature, Water and Food Panel. The Commission brought together representatives of key national and regional bodies to design a high-level strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from domestic, commercial and industrial activities across Yorkshire and Humber, alongside interventionsto adapt to the severe impacts of climate change, particularly flooding in our cities.
As a member of the Environmental Sustainability Sub-Committee of my University’s Executive Board (2021-24) I was jointly responsible for a strategic delivery plan across four campuses and serving a community of over 50,000 students and staff. This involved oversight of a complex portfolio of policies and operational plans to: increase renewable energy; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings and laboratories; improve biodiversity on campuses; and focus more attention on the detrimental environmental impacts of the purchase of goods and services.
