Tom Hocking, a Sheffield resident, works in specialist climate and environmental communications across Yorkshire and the Humber. He understands the vital role that the Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust (SRWT) plays in protecting and enhancing the region’s green spaces. “I know the vital role Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust plays in protecting and enhancing the region’s green spaces for both nature and people,” Tom explains.
Through his role at the Local Storytelling Exchange, Tom focuses on sharing solutions-based, people-led stories of climate action. He works with a diverse range of communities across South Yorkshire, many of whom are often excluded from traditional climate conversations. “The role sees me working closely with an incredible, diverse range of communities across South Yorkshire, many of whom are often excluded from traditional climate conversation, and I believe these skills and contacts will aid the outreach goals of SRWT,” he says.
In addition, Tom has experience as a founding trustee of the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust, where he helped establish and serve on the board of a Community Benefit Society. This role involved navigating sensitive, divisive topics while growing membership numbers.
Tom’s passion for nature extends to his personal life. “From transforming my garden from sterile concrete to thriving wildlife habitat to walking the paths of Beeley Wood and Loxley Common with my dog, I am passionate about supporting restoration of, and engagement in, nature in my local area,” he says, adding, “I can think of no better way of aiding that than being a trustee for SRWT.”
